As a native Minnesotan, the Minneapolis bridge collapse really hit home for me this week. Thankfully all of my friends and family are safe and sound, but there were also many stories of near misses. I myself, drove over that bridge thousands of times.
Now that light has been shed on just how badly our infrastructure is in a state of disrepair, shouldn't this signal a need for a more sustainable one such as light rail? With convenient access to public transportation, more freeways could be turned into toll roads to help with maintenance costs, and fewer cars would be on the road adding to wear and tear.
